Can God make a rock so big, He can’t move it? Can He make a bowl of soup so hot He can’t eat it? Can He make something He can’t destroy??

These paradoxes and others like them abound in this religious confusion that today’s world is caught up in. But what is the REAL truth? What is Satan’s destiny? What JUDGMENT does God have in store for him?

In answering this question, many will point to this scripture – claiming that it says the Devil must live forever, to be tormented.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

In this scripture, “ever and ever” is translated from the original, inspired Greek words written by John. “Ever” is from the Greek word “aion” – the word from which we get “eon” today. This word means, then as now, AN AGE. A period of time! Not an eternity!

“Aiwn (aion) is usually better expressed by age, it is the world at a given time, a particular period in the world’s history.” (From “Online Bible Greek Lexicon” – article on “World, age”)

Consider these scriptures. The bold words come from “aion.”

Mark 4:19 And the cares of this world...

Luke 16:8 …for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

John 9:32 Since the world began was it not heard…

Now try replacing the italicized words with “age” – notice the perfect sense it makes. Then try replacing it with “eternity” – and it makes no sense! It would be GIBBERISH if you had to insert eternity, or “forever and ever” into each place where this Greek word was used!

So, you must allow the Bible to tell you which word should be used – an eternity of punishment, or merely an AGE of punishment, or a punishment AT THE END of an age!

God is a God of law. He has rules – His laws – and when broken, these rules always carry a penalty. And God made a RULE, a LAW. This law says that “The wages of sin is DEATH” (Romans 6:23). In other words, “the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:4)

This is the judgment, the penalty of BREAKING God’s law. Now, we know that Satan is the father of lies, and of SIN. And yet the entire world today doesn’t believe the judgment God said He will make on EVERY soul that sins, and says instead that Satan will live forever!

Understand! The father, the very KING OF SIN, and the originator of it, CANNOT be exempted from its penalties! It’s STARKLY UNTHINKABLE!

So WHY have you been taught that Satan cannot be destroyed? Because that is what SATAN WANTS TO BELIEVE! He doesn’t want to believe that God can destroy him – as far as we know, no angel has ever yet been destroyed – and in his arrogance and pride, Satan doesn’t think God can do it!

But think about it – man’s destructive power seems to be equal, or greater, than his creative power. Can YOU build something you can’t destroy – ever? Can you make a concrete wall so thick, so strong, that you can’t turn it into rubble? Or a car so strong you can’t wreck it – if you try hard enough, and long enough?

God has no limits on His powers. HE IS THE ALMIGHTY.

GOD MADE SATAN – HE CAN KILL HIM!

When will this happen? And why does Revelation 20:10 say, properly translated, “At the end of the Age of the Ages?”

1 Corinthians 15:24-26 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, TILL he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is DEATH.

God is working out a plan. In the beginning, God created angels – then, in due time, the universe – then mankind, and this current society – And, yet in the future, the resurrection of the saints of God – and finally, there will be an age to give many of the people who have lived, suffered, and died on this earth their CHANCE AT SALVATION. Finally, when all of these AGES are completed, at the end of the AGE OF THE AGES talked about in Revelation, Satan will be destroyed for good!

This scripture is talking about a glorious day in the future when ALL enemies are destroyed – This MUST include Satan, the FIRST enemy! Even DEATH ITSELF IS GONE! And Christ will reign UNTIL THAT TIME – then, and ONLY THEN, He will deliver the kingdom to His Father – when the plan, the job Christ set out to do in this age is FINALLY COMPLETED – and all the suffering, heartache, death, pain and tears are FINALLY BANISHED FROM THE UNIVERSE!
