Goal Of Life > If we shall be like Him.. how can we possibly not be.. LIKE Him?

If that isn’t what we are to God... then WHY call us sons and daughters at all??

Let’s make this very clear. If you have a human father, you will one day grow up to be just like him in every meaningful way. The same height, the same strength, the same intelligence, and the same basic appearance.

There will be minor variations, of course, because you aren’t the same person; but you will be very much like him. And the Bible clearly says that we are the offspring of God (Acts 17:28).

Now think about what that means; if a ram reproduces, it has a young lamb; not as large, not capable of feeding itself, not capable of defending itself from predators... but recognizably a sheep.

This is true of all life in the universe; the child, however strange it may look in the womb or cocoon or egg, however weak and fragile it might be as an infant, one day grows up to be like the parent; with no appreciable difference in strength, skill, or size between generations.

How can this not be true of God’s offspring??

Ephesians 4:13 (NKJV) until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ.

This is a favorite scripture for many. So how come... none of them believe what it says? It says we have the potential to mature to the full height of the stature of Christ. That we can be in every way like He is!

He came to Earth to be in every way like we are; fully human, with all of our challenges and temptations (Hebrews 2:14-18, 4:15); and by overcoming those things, made it possible for us to be fully divine, in every way like He is now!

Merely for quoting these verses, some readers of this will send me hate-mail accusing me of blasphemy; count on it. They’ll say it’s impossible, and sacrilegious, “for who can ever truly be like God?”

John 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

What was Jesus’ blasphemy in their eyes? That He dared to call God His Father and mean it literally! (John 10:27-32).

John 10:34-36 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

Now you might say “well, sure, but that’s Jesus; of course HE could call Himself the actual Son of God; but we are humans, and we can never be like Him in that way”.

Jesus was quoting Psalm 82:6, which says “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High”. He said this applied to Him...

But this verse makes it clear that ALL OF YOU are ALSO children of the most High, and thus... are potentially sons and daughters of God! And Paul commanded us to act like it!

Philippians 2:5-6 NKJV Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,

Jesus did not consider it blasphemy to be equal with God. To think of Himself as part of God’s species, one with God (John 10:30). And neither should you because you are also in the form of God!

Yet who today has that mind in them? Do you believe that you will one day be like Him in all things? (Ephesians 4:15). No, of course you aren’t very much like Him now; but as you grow up you can become like Him in every way.

Think about that: Every way.
