Is God A Trinity?

The word “trinity” does not appear in the Bible. And yet denying the trinity is the #1 definition of a cult. Does that make sense?

The way the term is used in casual literature and sermons we are given the impression that the trinity is spoken of on every page of the Bible – but is it? Can YOU turn to a dozen verses which mention it? Five? Even one?

Christianity today teaches that God exists as three distinct persons who coexist as one; at the same time, they are both one being, and three beings. They quibble over the details, but in general they agree on that much. They plainly admit that it makes little if any sense, but believe it is true nonetheless claiming it is simply beyond the comprehension of man.

But did you ever read in the Bible where it says “God is a trinity”? Did you ever read a single verse that says God is three beings in one? Have you ever read a verse where anyone prays to the Holy Spirit? (not through, by, or in the spirit, but TO the spirit?)

Have you ever read a verse that contains this exact phrase “God the Holy Spirit”, or “the Holy Spirit IS God/Lord”? There are many such verses regarding the divinity of Jesus or the Father; why are there no such verses regarding the Holy Spirit?

There are certainly many verses that contain phrases like “the Holy Spirit OF God”. But that doesn’t say the Holy Spirit IS God; it says the Holy Spirit is OF God, or FROM God. It does not say that the Holy Spirit is a coequal, coexistent, united-yet-separate divinity!

Without a single verse attesting to the most basic belief about God in nearly every Christian Church on Earth, how can you be SURE you’re right? If God is a trinity, the Bible will surely reveal it clearly, for the Bible was given to us “for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”(2 Timothy 3:16).

Men have written literally mountains of paper on this subject; but I won’t quote any of them. If you want the answer, you need to ask the ONLY BEING WHO REALLY KNOWS WHAT GOD IS LIKE! You need to ask GOD! But you don’t need some special prayer or dream to do so; you need the written revelation God gave to us to learn all about Him; you need the Bible.

Martin Luther had never personally met God. He didn’t really KNOW what God was like, firsthand; neither did John Calvin, John Wesley, or John Paul II; nor did Eusebius, Athanasius, or Origen; nor have you or I, nor your preacher. We need an AUTHORITATIVE source, one who really KNOWS the answer; you need the inspired word of God which you’ll find in the Bible.

If God is a trinity, the Bible will surely prove that. If not, the Bible will prove that also. You have nothing to fear either way from demanding PROOF from your Bible…

THESE THREE ARE ONE

The most famous verse that people quote, the only one that actually speaks of God clearly as a trinity is 1 John 5:7-8; make sure you use a KJV Bible when you look up this verse, which says

1 John 5:7-8 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

That certainly seems like a convincing argument for the trinity. But let’s study that verse in more depth. Look at it in a modern translation, say, the NIV; what does it say? That verse seems a lot shorter in the NIV, doesn’t it? That’s because the majority of this passage is missing! Why is that?

All Bibles are translated into English from the original languages; Greek, in the case of the New Testament. Greek copies of the Bible were kept all over Europe, some dating back over a thousand years; and in the 1500s a man named Erasmus gathered together as many as he could find and compiled a complete copy of the Greek New Testament.

In the first two editions of Erasmus’ Greek Bible, 1 John 5:7-8 did not contain the passage underlined in the quote above; in other words, all direct evidence of the trinity was missing. It read like the NIV version does. This was because Erasmus did not believe those words were a part of the Bible, since they didn’t appear in the older source manuscripts that he had. But it was a popular passage, and churchmen were furious that without this passage, the proof of the trinity was seriously weakened – and it is.

Erasmus is said to have replied to these critics that the Comma did not occur in any of the Greek manuscripts he could find, but that he would add it to future editions if it appeared in a single Greek manuscript. Such a manuscript was subsequently concocted by a Franciscan, and Erasmus, true to his word, added the Comma to his 1522 edition, but with a lengthy footnote setting out his suspicion that the manuscript had been prepared expressly to confute him.” Wikipedia, article “Comma Johanneum”.

In the end of the 19th century, a new version of the Greek New Testament was released, based on a different set of texts, and it correctly did not include this passage because the vast majority of scholars believe it is a fraud!

What the passage said when God inspired it was…

1 John 5:7-8 For there are three that bear record, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

And of course, this offers no proof of the trinity. Don’t believe me! Look this up for yourself in any Bible dictionary or encyclopedia. There are a few who believe it is inspired, but by far the majority of scholars believe that this verse does not belong in the Bible. This includes Trinitarians, who would love to have such strong confirmation of their beliefs – but most can’t, in good conscience, use it.

ARE JESUS AND HIS FATHER ONE?

Absolutely! That’s what the Bible says!

John 10:30 I and my Father are one.

But HOW are they one? Is it in a way that no human can comprehend? Is it something Man was not meant to know? Or is it something much simpler? Look to the Bible for your answer!

John 17:11 … Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, THAT THEY MAY BE ONE, AS WE ARE.

Jesus prayed to His Father, asking that WE may be one JUST AS He and His Father are one! Now if their oneness is a part of the trinity, a God-head closed off from Man, then certainly we could NEVER be a part of their oneness! And yet Jesus, knowing this, asked it for us anyway! Why?

John 17:21-22 That THEY ALL MAY BE ONE; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be ONE IN US: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; THAT THEY MAY BE ONE, EVEN AS WE ARE ONE:

Just as the Father is in Jesus, and Jesus is in the Father; so Jesus asked that WE might be in THEM! As a part of that same oneness that Jesus and the Father share! In the exact same way that Jesus and His Father are one!

Now if these verses prove the existence of the Trinity, they also prove that we can ALL be a part of that trinity – in which case, it would cease to be a trinity altogether (since a trinity is three persons in one) and become something ELSE!

You’ll learn what that “something else” is later in this booklet. Meanwhile, Jesus goes a step farther and asks His Father… “I in them, and thou in me, that THEY may be made PERFECT IN ONE(John 17:23)! Get that! Jesus asked for US to be made a part of their PERFECT ONENESS!

Jesus and His Father are indeed one! But not in a mystical, incomprehensible way. It a very real, down-to-Earth, rational sense. And whatever that way is, we humans will one day be able to take part in it!

And while we’re on the subject, why isn’t the Holy Spirit a part of their oneness? Jesus and His Father are said to be “one” at least a dozen times in this book – yet not once is the Holy Spirit EVER said to be “one” with either of them!

WHY IS THE SPIRIT IGNORED?

There are thousands of verses that speak of the divinity of God; many more that speak of the divinity of Christ. Over and over again we are shown glimpses of the throne room of God in heaven, and every single time we see God on the throne, and Jesus on His right hand or in front of Him… and yet we never ever see the Holy Spirit sitting anywhere.

For example, read John 1:1-3. It tells us that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. This “Word”, or spokesman, is later revealed to be Jesus in this same chapter (verse 14). And in this time before the worlds were created, John says that there was God; and that this was this Word – Jesus. That’s two Beings… and the Holy Spirit is not mentioned. Why?

In various visions of God’s throne room we invariably see the Father and/or Jesus… but never once, in all those visions do we see the Holy Spirit sitting on a throne beside them. For example…

Acts 7:56 and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.”

Why isn’t the Holy Spirit on His left? Why isn’t the Holy Spirit mentioned in Daniel 7:9-14 when the “ancient of days” (the Father) and “one like the son of man” (Jesus) are pictured in the throne room of heaven? Or in a similar vision in Revelation chapters 4 and 5, we see the Father on a throne and Jesus before him – but “God the Holy Spirit” is nowhere to be seen. Why?

Revelation 7:10And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

Why do they only cry “salvation to our God… and unto the Lamb”? Why not “Salvation unto the Holy Spirit”, too? Even in the very last pages of the Bible, when the glorious future is described and God dwells on Earth in the holy city, there is no evidence of “God the Holy Spirit” anywhere. Read through Revelation 21-22 and you will see the Father and the Lamb (Jesus Christ) mentioned over and over – but the spirit is never once pictured among them.

We do hear the Spirit speaking in Revelation 22:17, but we will see later whether or not that constitutes proof that the Spirit is a separate person.

1 Corinthians 8:5-6 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Paul was fighting idolatry, and so he set out to make a complete list of Gods; ignoring all those that are falsely “called gods”. And he said there is one God the Father; and one Lord Jesus Christ. No mention of the Holy Spirit! How could Paul commit such blasphemy and ignore the third divine person – unless there is no third divine person?

But Paul did that all the time; in the beginning and ending of most of his books, Paul addresses salutations such as “Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 1:3). Read the first few and last few verses of every letter from Paul and you will see that he NEVER addresses anything to the Holy Spirit; never prays to the Holy Spirit; and in general, completely ignores the Holy Spirit as a person!

In the entire Bible, no one EVER prays to the Holy Spirit. Not once! They sometimes pray “in” the spirit – meaning that their prayer was INSPIRED by the Holy Spirit, but not once is a prayer ever addressed TO the Holy Spirit!

2 John 1:9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

If the trinity were true, then every time – or at least, the vast majority of times – that the Godhead were mentioned the Spirit would be mentioned with them. If they were indeed coequal, it would be impossible not to have them each mentioned.

If God were a trinity, this scripture SHOULD read “he that abides in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” but not one verse in the entire Bible ever says anything like that!

BUT WHY IS THE SPIRIT CALLED “HE”?

The spirit is translated as “he” and “him” regularly in the latter chapters of John and a few times elsewhere. It is also usually capitalized so it reads “Spirit” (a person) instead of “spirit” (a thing). The capitalization is quite easy to answer. The Bible was inspired by God. The translation of that Bible was not.

The Greek language from which the NT was translated has no punctuation or capital/lowercase letters, not even any spaces – SOONESENTENCELOOKSALOTLIKETHIS – and the punctuation, capitalization, chapter/verse markings, margin notes and crossreferences were all added by the translators of the Bible.

This was necessary to make it readable in English, but since it was not an inspired process, they made mistakes because they were translating the Bible as they understood it; so when they saw the Greek word for “SPIRIT” they usually translated it as “Spirit”, not “spirit”, because they believed it was a person. And that’s all there was to it – “Spirit” was the opinion of the translators, not an inspired fact.

The gender of the spirit is a bit more complicated to explain. If you’ve ever studied a foreign language, you probably have learned that most other languages divide their objects by gender. In Spanish for instance, “mesa” is table; but the word is feminine, so if it were literally translated into English it would be something like “the she-table”. On the other hand, “sol” means the sun; but it is a masculine word, so to literally translate it into English it would be “the he-sun”. This of course is never done, because that information is arbitrary anyway – everyone knows there are no female tables or male suns, nor vice versa.

The best English comparison is how we tend to call boats “her”, or how people tend to think “all dogs are boys, all cats are girls”. When approaching a cat, a large majority of people will call it a her without knowing what the gender is; reverse that for dogs. And so this obviously incorrect information is nonetheless a part of our culture and language.

And it is simply a part of most languages that all nouns have a gender. It has no bearing on whether that item actually IS masculine or feminine; it just makes the language… well, it’s just how it is. Some languages also have a third gender, which is neutral. Greek is that way.

In Greek, both masculine and neuter words are used to refer to the Holy Spirit; the “helper” “comforter” and “advocate” in John 14-16 is parakletos, which is masculine. That is, the noun parakletos is masculine, and so in those chapters the translators spoke of it as a “he”. But the masculinity of the Greek noun has no bearing on whether the subject referred to, the comforter, is a he, she, or it.

So translating those words as a “he” in English is like translating a Spanish phrase into English “where is my shirt I want to wash her”. In Spanish, shirt is feminine. So in Spanish, you wouldn’t call your shirt an “it”, you’d call it “her”. But to translate that into English is misleading and implies that the shirt has a human gender which of course it doesn’t!

And the translators were not consistent with calling the Holy Spirit a “he”, for example…

Romans 8:16,26 The Spirit ITSELF beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God … the Spirit ITSELF maketh intercession…

1 Peter 1:11 …the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when IT testified beforehand…

John 1:32I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and IT abode upon him.

So you see, by the same evidence FOR the personhood of the spirit – the fact that it was called “he” – we also have evidence for the “thinghood” of the spirit – the fact that it was called “it”.

Incidentally, Hebrew has a similar gender system and in Hebrew the noun for “spirit”… is feminine. Does that prove God the Holy Spirit is a she? If not, then neither does John 14-16 prove that the spirit is a he, or a person at all.

IS THE SON EQUAL TO THE FATHER?

In the doctrine of the trinity, all three Gods are coequal; none holds power over another. But is that what the Bible says?

John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Jesus did not come to earth to do His will; He came to earth to do His Father’s will!

John 14:10 ….the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

The words Jesus spoke while He was here doing His Father’s will were not His own; they were His Father’s. Likewise, the mighty works that Jesus performed – the miracles and signs – He didn’t do them with His own power, His Father did them through Him!

John 5:19, 30 …Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do… I can of mine own self do nothing:

Jesus said that on His own, He was POWERLESS to do anything on this Earth! And finally, a verse to end all discussion; Jesus said “… my Father is greater than I” (John 14:28). So if Jesus and His Father are not equal… the trinity, if it exists at all, cannot be an equal trinity!

WHEN DID JESUS BEGIN TO EXIST?

Trinitarians almost universally believe that the Father was the God of the Old Testament, and Jesus the God of the New; and also that Jesus did not exist before the womb of Mary. But even a casual reading of the Bible proves that to be completely wrong.

Acts 2:34-36The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool … God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

This is a quote from Psalms 110:1; and notice that THE LORD said unto DAVID’S LORD … This means that David dealt with a “LORD” and THE “LORD” was telling HIM what to do. Peter then said that this “Lord” is THAT SAME JESUS. So this verse was God the Father speaking to Christ… 1000 years B.C.

God then MADE that same Jesus – the LORD of the Old Testament, into our LORD and CHRIST. Not that He CREATED him, but He MADE HIM THE CHRIST. Because He is greater than Christ – as Christ, Himself said.

John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Christ had GLORY with the Father BEFORE THE WORLD WAS. He could not have had glory before the world was, if He didn’t EXIST before the world was!

John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

1 Corinthians 10:4 … they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: AND THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST.

1500 years “before Christ”, a “Rock” followed Israel around the wilderness, and Paul says THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST!

Colossians 1:16-17 For by him [Speaking of Jesus]were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Jesus existed BEFORE all things, and by him all things exist!

Hebrews 1:1-2 God,…Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

God the Father gave the order, and Jesus carried that order out and made every cell and every star in the universe. “And God said, Let US make man in our image, after our likeness…”(Genesis 1:26), and so Christ created man, gave him the breath of life, and here we are – at the Father’s order. Another scripture that can confuse people, is

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

God (the Father) is ONE Lord. OUR Lord, Christ, serves him (Psalms 110:1) – and Christ came to earth to reveal the Father. Jesus has always existed, as has the Father; and Jesus was usually the Being addressed as “God” in the Old Testament, because the Father hadn’t been revealed until the New Testament.

And one final verse to settle the subject beyond question; Jesus was born in Bethlehem; everyone knows that. And we all know that Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords; and here is a prophecy of Him, prophesying not only those two things, but also telling us just how old Jesus really is…

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, FROM EVERLASTING.

IS THE HOLY SPIRIT A PERSON?

The Holy Spirit is mentioned many times in the Bible; but what exactly is it? Is the Holy Spirit a divine person, the third arm of the trinity – or is it something else? To find the answer, look at your Bible; what does the Holy Spirit do – how is it portrayed? As a person, or a thing?

Trinitarians point to the fact that the Bible says the Holy Spirit “shall teach you all things” (John 14:26); “shall testify of me (Jesus)” (John 15:26); “searches all things” (1 Corinthians 2:10); gives various gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1-11); reproves (John 16:8); helps and intercedes (Romans 8:26); and so on. Now all of those are facts; the Holy Spirit does those things!

And those do seem person-like… but that’s only half the story. Because the Bible ALSO says the Holy Spirit can be “quenched” (1 Thessalonians 5:19). Can you quench a person? It says it can be “stirred” (2 Timothy 1:6-7); can you stir a person? It says it can be “given” (1 Thessalonians 4:8, 2 Corinthians 1:22, etc). How can you “give” a person to someone else, unless perhaps they are a slave? The Holy Spirit is given in measured amounts (John 3:34, 2 Corinthians 1:22)… how can a person be given in measured amounts?

The Holy Spirit can be “poured out” (Acts 2:17, 33), people can be baptized (immersed) in it (Matthew 3:11), drink it (John 7:37-39), and be filled with it (Acts 2:4; Ephesians 5:18). None of those make sense if the Holy Spirit is a person. So how can we explain the times when it does show person-like characteristics? Simple – ask yourself if, when the Bible treats something as a person, it is always LITERALLY a person! For example,

Romans 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Is Sin a real person – based on this, the same type of evidence cited for the Holy Spirit’s personhood, it is. The sun is “ashamed” – a clearly person-like emotion – in Isaiah 24:23. According to Luke 19:40, stones would cry out, if children did not praise God. Does that mean every stone is a person?

The land enjoys her rests (Sabbaths). (Leviticus 26:43). Does that mean land is a living female person? Abel’s blood cried to God from the ground (Genesis 4:10); does that mean Abel’s blood was a separate, individual being apart from Abel himself? And that it also had a literal voice? And in the next verse, the Earth opens her mouth; is this more proof of the Earth’s female personhood?

In Proverbs 1:20-33, Wisdom makes a long speech as if it were a real person; does that mean it is? Wisdom says in the first person “I have called….I also will laugh at your calamity…I will mock…I will not answer…they shall not find me…” – etc. Much later, Jesus said that “wisdom is justified by her children” (Matthew 11:19).

Does this mean that Wisdom is a real, existing person somewhere in the universe – probably an immortal person, from the context? Perhaps a fourth part of the trinity? Or is the Bible just speaking metaphorically to make a point, just as it did when it personified sin, the moon, rocks… and perhaps the Holy Spirit as well?

THE ANSWER

So at best, that gives us a mixed answer; there are some things that could imply a person, but just as many that simply cannot be a person. And yet the answer is so simple! And you already understand it, you just hadn’t thought about it this way! Take the common phrase “I’ll be with you in spirit”. When you are with someone in spirit, it means that while they are gone, you will be thinking about them. Your heart will follow them, and would be there with them if it could.

But supposing you HAD the power. Suppose that, while your loved one was on the other side of the world, you could send a small piece of your self to be with them; something that would allow you to communicate with them, express your love for them, help them with problems – even though you yourself were thousands of miles away. And supposing you called that portion of yourself your “spirit”.

And that’s it – you now understand what the spirit of God is. Of course, you’re just a human so you can’t send your spirit an inch, much less a thousand miles. But God can! And while God is in heaven, He CAN be with us “in spirit”. By sending a portion of Himself, His “essence” if you will, to watch over, guide, and teach us.

Not a separate person! But an extension of the SAME person; when you make a phone call, you don’t become two separate people just because your voice is heard in New York and California at the same time; but that phone wire CARRIES your self, your emotions, your compassion and your thoughts to someone even though you never left home!

This is just an analogy of course; but it makes sense of all the facts. The spirit of God testifies of God, teaches us about God, and searches the deep things of God because it is like being on the other end of a phone call with God. It conveys what God wants, thinks, and feels – and His power as well – to us.

But that spirit must be used regularly; like an old-fashioned phone line will “beep-beep-beep” at you if you don’t dial after picking up the handset, so God’s spirit must be used every so often or it will go stale and God will give it to someone else. If you do things that offend God and “quench” the spirit, God will “hang up” on you.

And it’s the same for all those other attributes applied to the spirit. It is God’s way of communicating with us – the only difference between it and a phone line is that instead of connecting to our ears, it connects to our thoughts; and unlike a mere phone line, it can also carry the power of God with it, to cause miracles even though God Himself is far, far from here… because He is with us in spirit.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE SPIRIT?

Above I likened the spirit to a phone line to God. And in fits that allegory nicely. But we can do a much better job than that. For example, read this scripture very closely:

1 Corinthians 2:11 (BBE)For who has knowledge of the things of a man but the SPIRIT OF THE MAN which is in him? IN THE SAME WAY, no one has knowledge of the things of God but the Spirit of God.

A man knows the “things of man” because of the spirit of the man which is in him! Men have their own spirit, not the spirit of God, but an individual separate spirit inside each and every one of us, a spark of life which makes us uniquely ourselves!

Job 32:8But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

And Paul said that in the SAME WAY that there is a spirit in man… there is a spirit in GOD! Now think about it; did God make us after any particular pattern?

Genesis 1:26-27 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness … So God created man IN HIS OWN IMAGE, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

So man was made in the IMAGE OF GOD! We are made to LOOK like God – after His pattern. When you see two arms and two legs on you, it’s because that is what your pattern looked like – what God looked like! You can see that for yourself when Jesus is described in His glorified form in…

Revelation 1:13-15 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

This is a description of Jesus as He appears today. Notice that while He is much more glorious than we are in this form, he still has feet; hair; eyes; all the same body parts we have. And according to the scripture you read above He has a spirit in Him JUST LIKE WE HAVE A SPIRIT IN US.

IS JESUS THE SON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?

Jesus made it plain in dozens of verses that God the Father was His Father. That’s why Jesus called Him… the Father. Pretty simple, right? Unarguable scripture states that Jesus was the Son of the Father, NOT the son of the Holy Spirit! But then how is it possible that Jesus was conceived by God the Holy Spirit??

Matthew 1:18 (Philips)The birth of Jesus Christ happened like this. When Mary was engaged to Joseph, before their marriage, she was discovered to be pregnant—by the Holy Spirit

The Bible says that the Holy Spirit was Jesus’ Father! Did He have TWO fathers? Do we need to have a spiritual paternity test to see which one is Jesus’ real Father?? But the answer is very simple. The Holy Spirit isn’t a separate person at all; it is a part of the Father Himself; it is the Holy Spirit OF the Father!

Matthew 10:20For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

Do you see? This spirit isn’t a separate entity apart from the Father, it is an integral part OF the Father! Just as the spirit in man is an integral part of each and every one of us! So when Mary was impregnated by the spirit of God, she was literally impregnated by God the Father, THROUGH His spirit!

BUT WHAT DOES THAT SPIRIT DO?

1 Corinthians 2:11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? EVEN SO the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

We can better understand God’s spirit by understanding our own, since we are made after His pattern. Our spirit “knows the things of man” – meaning that it understands us; it knows what we think and why. For lack of a better word, it is our conscience. And God says “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.”(Proverbs 20:27).

Our spirit is like a flashlight that God uses to shine around the inward parts of our soul to see what we think, why we do what we do, and what we believe right and wrong is. In a sense, it is like one end of a telephone receiver built into us; with God holding the other end and controlling the wire between us.

And above, 1 Corinthians 2:11 says that God’s spirit does the same thing in Him that ours does in us; just as our spirit is our conscience and moral center, so God’s spirit is His conscience and moral center; in the same chapter, it goes on to say “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16).

If we have the Holy Spirit, then we have the mind of Christ in us. Obviously not the entire mind, for then no one else could have any of it! But we have a receiver that connects us to the mind of Christ in us! And that receiver – our spirit – allows Christ’s spirit to connect with our mind on a sub-verbal, sometimes sub-conscious level, to convey to us what Christ would do in a given situation.

WHO IS THE COMFORTER?

We made it clear that the comforter was not an independent third arm of the trinity, but you haven’t yet learned what it IS. But if you read John 14-16 carefully, there is no question of just what it is – or rather, who. You read that the Father has a spirit in Him (Matthew 10:20). But Jesus also has a spirit in Him! A separate spirit!

Luke 23:46And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

That spirit left His body when He died; until then, it was a necessary part of His body just like your spirit is a necessary part of yours. You can’t give me your spirit, nor can I give you mine. Because when we “give up the spirit/ghost” we die – as James 2:26 says “…the body without the spirit is dead…”!

Now with that in mind, read these verses in John…

John 14:16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

So they were going to get ANOTHER comforter; do you see that? That meant they already HAD one! Who was the comforter that they already had?

John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

They already HAD a comforter dwelling WITH them; but they were going to get ANOTHER comforter dwelling IN them! Do you see? The next verse makes it plain. WHO is this comforter coming back to them?

John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Jesus wasn’t going to leave them without a comforter because HE was coming back to them AS THE COMFORTER! The word “comforter” is translated from the Greek parakletos meaning helper, comforter, or advocate. The identical Greek word was used later, but was translated as advocate. See for yourself who that advocate/comforter is!

1 John 2:1 if any man sin, we have an advocate [parakletos, comforter] with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Jesus promised to come back to us as our comforter/advocate and 1 John 2:1 proves that He did just that! But there is more to it than that.

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Jesus was going to send the comforter back to them WHEN He was with the Father; and that comforter would testify about Jesus; that is, it would say the same things Jesus said:

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The comforter is the Holy Spirit; and the Father was going to send it IN JESUS’S NAME. That phrase is very badly misunderstood, but it is very simple. It’s like when a king sends an ambassador to another country to speak in his name. That ambassador is empowered by the king to speak in the king’s place; to talk to people as if the king himself were talking to them.

So when God sends the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name, it means He is sending it in Jesus’ place! The comforter – the Holy Spirit – is send to them to REPLACE Jesus’s physical presence with them!

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Why was it NECESSARY that Jesus go away before the Holy Spirit could come? Are Jesus and the Holy Spirit not on speaking terms? Can they not be in the same room with one another? Demand answers to hard questions like this! WHY did Jesus have to leave before they could receive the Holy Spirit??

Jesus and the Father can be in the same place at the same time, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit can’t be! Why is that? Even much later, after Jesus was resurrected, the Holy Spirit STILL couldn’t come until Jesus actually LEFT the Earth 40 days after His resurrection!

Acts 1:3-4 … being seen of them forty days [after His resurrection] … And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

This was the same promise He gave them in John 14-16.

Acts 1:5-9 … ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence … ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you … And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

It was TEN DAYS later, after Jesus ascended up into heaven for the last time, that the Holy Spirit was FINALLY given to them. Why?

The answer is so simple! Jesus said in John 14:17the Spirit of truth … ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

This spirit was WITH them! They ALREADY KNEW Him! This wasn’t a NEW spirit, but a spirit that had been living amongst them for 34 years! And that same spirit was going to be INSIDE of them! What spirit is going to be INSIDE of the true Christians? “Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” Romans 8:9, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:26).

JESUS WAS THE COMFORTER! That’s why Jesus said I will not leave you comfortless: I WILL COME TO YOU”! He couldn’t put His spirit in them now, because His spirit was still necessary to keep him alive! He couldn’t put His spirit in them until He had set down with His Father in His throne – THEN He would send the spirit back to them FROM His place with the Father!

That is why the physical Jesus and the spirit of Jesus couldn’t be in the same place at the same time! Because any place the physical Jesus was, the spirit of Jesus was INSIDE of Him and couldn’t be inside of anyone else! And Jesus gave that spirit to His Father when He died (Luke 23:46), so that it was His Father who had to give that spirit back to us – which is why that spirit “proceeds from the Father”! (John 15:26)

Do you see how it all makes perfect sense, if you just let the Bible interpret itself! There is no third arm of the trinity here, just the spirit of Christ communicating with, comforting, and helping us while He Himself is in Heaven in His Father’s throne!

FELLOWSHIP WITH THE SPIRIT?

1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Here there is no mention of fellowship with the Holy Spirit – only with the Father and the Son! How can this inspired writer ignore the person of the spirit, tacitly denying his existence, and speak only of the divinity of the Father and Christ?

Some who know their Bibles would point to scriptures such as Philippians 2:1 where it says “…if any fellowship of the Spirit…” – notice that the fellowship is OF the spirit, not WITH the spirit – there is a difference! The BBE translates that verse much better into modern English when it says “…and any common sharing of the Spirit” – again, this is not fellowshipping with “God the Holy Spirit”, this is a sharing of the spirit of God. Another similar objection comes from this verse…

2 Corinthians 13:14 (Philips) The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship that is ours in the Holy Spirit be with you all!

1 John 1:3 made it clear that our fellowship is with the Father and with Jesus; no mention of fellowshipping “WITH” the spirit. Philippians 2:1 is the same, a fellowshipping, or communication, or sharing of knowledge THROUGH the spirit. And in 2 Corinthians 13:14, Paul prays for these people to have the grace of Jesus, the love of the Father, and the fellowship that is ours IN the spirit – not WITH the spirit!

There is no reason to read a third person into that verse; the Holy Spirit is a tool which we simply must have in order to communicate with God; It is our phone line to God’s throne. If that line were cut, we would be in darkness like those who don’t know God. The better our “signal strength” the better we know God. It’s really that simple. We need that fellowship or “communion” with God and each other through the Holy Spirit. But there is no evidence here of a third arm of the trinity.

CONCLUSION

So you see, there is no Biblical evidence for the trinity at all. The Bible speaks of only two divine beings, Jesus and the Father; both of whom have a spirit which they send to work with man, revealing knowledge to us and helping us in a variety of ways. The scriptures above should have kicked the legs out from under every Biblical argument for the trinity excepting two, which will be addressed in the next chapter.

So where did the trinity originate, if not the Bible? Every pagan religion on Earth. Hinduism has a trinity of Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu – the nature of those deities corresponds very closely to the Catholic trinity. The triune God can be found at the core of ancient Mayan, Babylonian, Egyptian, Roman, Greek and Chinese religions. Literally every pagan culture had something like it. I don’t bother to prove this because a simple internet search for “triune God” or “pagan trinity” will send you to all the resources you need to prove it for yourself.

And so when Christianity began to fall away from the truth, which was already happening in the time of the Apostles (2 Thessalonians 2:7, 1 John 2:18), it naturally was corrupted with the doctrines the pagan semi-converts brought with them – chief among them the three-in-one nature of God.

2 Corinthians 11:3-4But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth ANOTHER JESUS, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive ANOTHER SPIRIT, which ye have not received, or ANOTHER GOSPEL, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Even in the time of Paul, 1975 years ago, there were people preaching a false Christ; a false Holy Spirit; a false gospel. That is what the trinity is – it teaches a false spirit coequal with a false Christ and a false God. That is why you don’t find any evidence of it in your Bible – because it isn’t true.

PART 2: GOD’S AWESOME PLAN FOR YOU

The worst part of the trinity is not that it is a false doctrine. The worst part is that it hides the truth from you, and the truth is a thousand times more wonderful than the trinity. God’s plan for man was set out very clearly in the Genesis 1:26,“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” – the plan of God is to make man like God in TWO ways; to look like God… and to act like God. And so reading on in Genesis…

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And so God went ahead and made man in His image. Do you see that? God did not make man in His likeness that day! The job God set out to do in verse 26 was left HALF DONE! Because God only made man to look like Him that day – the process of making man ACT like God requires much longer! And it requires our participation!

More on that in a moment; but before we get into the details, let’s jump ahead and see what God’s ultimate plan for Man is; why did He create us? What is our destiny?

1 John 3:1-2 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: …. and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

God’s promise to us is that we shall be LIKE HIM. Not merely a poor copy somewhere, a clay model next to a beautiful statue, but LIKE HIM! Just as your child will be like you! If you have a son, will he not grow up to be as all as you, smart as you, strong as you? God’s goal is to make YOU into His son or daughter! So that you will be LIKE HIM!

That cannot be stressed enough. Jesus said “all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18), And He in turn has promised to share that power with the saints!

Revelation 3:21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

That’s an awesome promise – but remember what Jesus asked His Father!

Jesus has promised to give us the SAME GLORY that God has given HIM! Imagine that!

HOW THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?

Now that you have a glimpse of your awesome potential, it’s time to go back and look at how that has to happen. This is really very, very simple and doesn’t take any brain-stretching at all. In Genesis 1:26, the word “God” is translated from the inspired Hebrew elohim. This Hebrew word is composed of two parts, el and ohim. The first part, el can be used alone and is often translated as “God”, as it was in Genesis 14:18.

Notice there that Melchizedek was a priest OF the “Most High God”. Now in the Hebrew, that literally says Melchizedek was the “priest of the most high El”. There can only be one “most high God”, and since Jesus’ Father is greater than Him, this “El” must be the Father. So in Hebrew, the proper name for the Father is El.

God speaks all langauges, so we don’t need to use that name when addressing him – “God” or “Father” works just fine – but we need to understand these details to understand our potential future. But back in Genesis 1:26, the last half of that word, el-ohim, signifies a PLURALITY in Hebrew; so while el means the person who is the Father, elohim means the persons who have the Father’s name.

To make it clearer, let’s make a modern analogy. Like Elohim, the English surname Johnson is two parts; literally, it means “son of John”. So Bill Johnson originally meant “Bill, son of John”. But when John had more than one son, it began to mean “Bill, one of the sons of John”. After a few generations, it became simpler just to say “Bill, of the family of John”, with the whole line of perhaps millions of descendants all carrying the same last name to show that they are ALL part of the family of John!

But think about the first John, the original John, from whom all Johnsons are named; his full name is simply John. There is only one of him, so there is no reason to have a last name, is there? In the same way, there is only one of the Father – in Hebrew, He is called El. There is no reason to have a last name, because He is the most high El. Everyone knows who that is.

But when He has a SON, the Son has His own name too. In the Old Testament, this name was Yahweh, usually translated “Jehovah” or “LORD”; but to show who His Father is, and what family He belongs to, He carries a LAST NAME too – So His full name would be, in English, “Yahweh, Son of El”, or “Yahweh, of the Els”.

In Hebrew, this is written “Yahweh Elohim” – which, in your Bible, is translated as “the LORD God” – but which translates better into modern English as “Yahweh of the family of El”!

Now this is all very logical and very simple. But this is just the beginning, because you see, ALL the children of God are named after the Father!

Ephesians 3:14-15For this cause I bow my knees UNTO THE FATHER of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom THE WHOLE FAMILY IN HEAVEN AND EARTH IS NAMED,

ALL the FAMILY – get that, the FAMILY of God are all named AFTER THE FATHER. God’s Kingdom is not a trinity, but a FAMILY OF GOD! And PART of that family is now in heaven… but part of it is on this VERY EARTH!

And the Father’s name is El, so all of God’s family are named ELOHIM – corresponding roughly to “The Els”. In English the name simply means “the Gods”! So Elohim is the last name of God – thus the last name of everyone in God’s FAMILY!

In John 1:1-3, we are introduced to the members of that family who existed before this creation began; the Father, and the Logos. Verse 3 says this Logos made ALL THINGS. You read above that Jesus made everything, but He only did so at the Father’s command. And so in Genesis 1:26, we see “God” (Elohim, the Father speaking for the Family of God), saying “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”.

Then in the retelling of the story in Genesis 2:7, we see – not God, but “the Lord God” making man. This is the Hebrew Yahweh Elohim making all things; since we know that JESUS made all things, “and without Him was not anything made that was made”, we can positively identify Yahweh Elohim as the same Being who later became Jesus Christ!

So God IS a family. That’s what He is. Even His name shows that. And everyone in that family carries the surname “Elohim”. John 1 describes in great detail the relationship between TWO beings in that family. It does not mention a third Being, which is staggering to trinitarians.

And the reason it doesn’t mention a third being in that Godhead is because there isn’t one. There isn’t a third being in that Godhead, there are potentially BILLIONS!

SONS AND DAUGHTERS

People read through the Bible over and over and somehow they miss the fact, on practically every page of the Bible, that God wants CHILDREN. Sons and daughters, immortal spirit beings JUST LIKE HIM!

Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST…

We are CHILDREN of God. Not metaphorically, but LITERALLY children; children made to both appear like and – ultimately – act like God! And if we fulfill our divine destiny, we will be made HEIRS of God. Can you grasp that? Heirs to the fortune, power, and glory of almighty God! Heirs to the VERY SAME INHERITANCE THAT GOD GAVE JESUS CHRIST!

Colossians 3:4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

God promises us GLORY WITH HIM! Not merely to sit on a cloud and harp, nor to cast down crowns before Him while chanting “holy, holy, holy” for all eternity, but GLORY that He is going to give us! Those are the plain words of your Bible, written on practically every single page!

Philippians 3:21, Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body …

Our body is going to look exactly like God’s! If you don’t believe that, then you don’t believe your Bible! It is going to be made of the same glorious, shining material as His! So that we can share in the glory that is His, and rule the universe with Him!

1 Corinthians 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Psalms 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

When God resurrects us into His family, we will awake looking and acting like God. We will awake, not merely in His image – looking like him – but in His likeness, ACTING like Him!

Remember we began this with Genesis 1:26; God only made us appear like Him on that day, but we do not yet act like Him. That is because we must have our “senses exercised by use to discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14). We must learn, one mistake at a time, why sin is evil. We must learn, one painful step at a time, why breaking God’s law hurts not only others, but ourselves as well.

Proverbs 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

And as God guides us through this process by His spirit and the spirit of His Son, we learn these lessons – hopefully – and as we train our spirit to be aligned with His, we become worthy to bear the name “child of God”.

Isaiah 56:5 Even unto them will I give … a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.

And so we will not merely receive the inheritance you might give to your children, but BETTER than Earthly sons and daughters could ever hope to get from their Father!

2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

We will receive the divine nature. The nature that embodies love. And at that moment, the second half of our Genesis 1:26 creation will be complete; we will both appear like God, and act like God. And when that happens, God will give us a place ruling the universe by His side.

Revelation 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

TO BE GOD – JUST AS GOD IS

What this has been leading up to is the inescapable conclusion: the saints of God will become Gods. In the same sense that God is a God. Because God is not just a person; it is a species. The Elohim or God-family is a race of incorruptibly righteous immortal spirit beings. Right now there are only two of them, God the Father and Jesus Christ.

But God said their purpose in creating man was to make sons and daughters in their image and after their likeness. To make us, in every literal sense, EXACTLY LIKE THEM! We are going to LOOK like them, ACT like them, set on THRONES with them, RULE with them, be IMMORTAL like them, be made of SPIRIT like them… the Bible plainly says all of those things! And if we are all of those things – what else could we be, but Gods?

Excepting the fact that God has existed forever, in what way will we be different from Him, based on that description out of your Bible? The fact that God is and always will be older than us is why God always will be greater than we; but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a place of honor and glory that God has promised us.

Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON, that he might be the firstborn among MANY BRETHREN.

But Jesus is going to be our ELDER BROTHER! Not separated from us by an awesome gulf of worship but our older brother! In the same family, just older and therefore always our leader BUT JUST BARELY MORE THAN AN EQUAL!

Hebrews 2:11For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Jesus is not ashamed to call us BROTHERS; not servants, but FAMILY; if He is not ashamed of us, why should we be afraid to agree with Him? When we are a part of that oneness Jesus asked for us to share with them, we will have a right to be called brothers, because we will be a part of the Elohim – one of the Gods!

No possible truth could be more shocking, or more astounding, than this promise of almighty God! And will you accuse me of blasphemy, for this? Then I turn to the words of Jesus, when the Jews accused HIM of Blasphemy for saying that He, a physical, mortal man, was the son of God! How dare He!

John 10:31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, MAKEST THYSELF GOD.

This man Jesus made himself a GOD, even though He was just a man. How did He dare do this? Was it because He was “special”? Was it because He was under different rules than we are? Most definitely not!

The whole PURPOSE of Christ’s coming to earth was to show that there was NOTHING, not one dot or letter of the law that mankind COULD NOT HAVE OBEYED! Christ is our PERFECT EXAMPLE! We are to walk JUST AS HE WALKED (1 John 2:6)!

Christ made Himself equal with God, because He knew that HE WAS DESTINED TO BE A PART OF THE GOD KIND, a part of the God SPECIES, so long as He obeyed His Father’s commands, and bore the image AND the LIKENESS of God! And the Apostle Paul commands, yes, COMMANDS you to do the VERY SAME THING!

Philippians 2:5-6 Let THIS mind BE IN YOU, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it NOT ROBBERY TO BE EQUAL WITH GOD:

Christ was in the FORM, the external appearance, the very IMAGE of God! Just like you and me! And HE KNEW that that meant that He was a part of the God KIND! And Paul was inspired to tell YOU to have THAT MIND in YOU! That mind which didn’t think it is ROBBERY to be EQUAL with GOD! Do you disagree with Him? Do you know more than He did?

He didn’t merely say that JESUS thought it not robbery; but He commanded YOU to have THAT SAME ATTITUDE IN YOU! What have you to say to THAT!

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, YE ARE GODS? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture CANNOT BE BROKEN;

To whom did He say “You are Gods”? THOSE TO WHOM THE WORD OF GOD COMES! GOD – not me, but GOD – said that the people who receive the word of God ARE GODS. Why? Because they have the LIKENESS OF GOD!

The word of God is summed up by the ten commandments; and those commandments show the character, the MIND of God applied in all possible facets and situations in life, and if you follow those principles, you will be acting JUST LIKE GOD ACTS! And if you do that, you will be no longer merely be fashioned in the IMAGE of God, but also in His LIKENESS, and you will FINALLY be FULFILLING YOUR DIVINE PURPOSE! The second half of your Genesis 1:26 creation will be completed!

The very character of God is reflected in those commandments, and to obey those commandments is to ACT LIKE GOD ACTS and to take upon yourself the DIVINE NATURE, the nature of GOD HIMSELF!

LAST OBJECTIONS

but isn’t that the sin of Satan – wanting to be like God?”

Yes! Because Satan wanted to FORCE God to make him a part of the Godhead! Satan wanted to join God and Jesus as a coequal ruler of the universe and then selfishly close that Godhead off to everyone else for eternity! Satan wanted to create a trinity!

We are not going to take this power for ourselves. If God does not make us a part of His family, and give us the honor, glory, and power He promised to those who overcome, we will never receive it. But the point is that this is what God promised us! Over and over in the pages of YOUR OWN BIBLE! He never promised that to Satan or the other angels (Hebrews 1:13-14, 2:7-8) – only to us. But Satan was determined to STEAL it from God, whether God gave it to him or not – and THAT was his sin.

We are not going to dethrone God. God will always be on His throne. We will never be more powerful than He, just as Jesus will always be inferior to the Father (1 Corinthians 15:28). But the God-family has “many mansions” or “many offices” (John 14:2) – many jobs to fill that require the services of immortal, incorruptibly righteous spirit beings – the saints – to manage the universe.

God will be God forever. But we will be a part of the God family, the God-species, with him. We will resemble him just as you resemble your Earthly Father; similar build, size, features – but unique in your own right. But with the same type of body, the same type of strength – and yet you will never be older than your Father. You will never have the right to give him orders, he will always be your elder.

But the power-gap between us will not be that between an ant and a person, or a dog and God; or a servant and God. It will be the same power-gap that should exist between you and your Earthly Father. The power-gap between you and Jesus will not be the power-gap that exists now between you and God, but the power-gap that should exist between you and your oldest brother. It’s just that simple – that’s how God runs His family.

John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends;…

Your future, if you overcome, is to be the friend of God; the brother of God. Not the servant of God. He, Himself said so. Why not believe Him?

Men Can’t become Gods! It’s impossible!”

Yes, it is – we could not become Gods. And yet…

Mark 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

…Or is this the one thing “almighty, all-powerful” God… can’t do? This is the purpose for which God created you. Hundreds of scriptures plainly state that. If God fails to do it, He will look rather silly won’t He?

but I wouldn’t even WANT to be God”

No one will force you. This is the offer that is on the table today, for the saints who can overcome in this most difficult time against the deception of the devil and the forces of evil around the world at every turn.

If you don’t like that offer, God can find a place to suit you. But this is what the Bible says we are promised – whether it’s what you want or not it’s what God is offering today. But don’t worry – whatever happens, God will see to it that you are rewarded for what you do.

Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name …

ONE WITH GOD

At the beginning of this booklet, I told you that God had something else in mind; something better than a trinity. In the past few pages you’ve seen what that is. But now it’s time to wrap it all up. We cannot be one with God today, because we cannot be where God is. God dwells in light to which no man can approach (1 Timothy 6:16). So we cannot, today, be one with God for many reasons but chief among them that being in God’s presence would cause our flesh to wither and smoke away.

Also, we are not righteous enough to be in God’s presence. Even though we may mean well, our heart is still carnal and until we get that under control and “His seed remains in us and we cannot sin” (1 John 3:9), we dare not be near God.

But when we are resurrected into the God family and given our new body and the carnal heart is taken out of us, we can literally be one with God. We will be “made perfect in one”, because we will be like God in every sense.

John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Jesus and the Father can be one because they are in harmony on everything they believe, and everything they do. They both want the good of others more than their own, so they never have reason to squabble and bicker over anything – they are one in spirit. When we reach that stage of maturity with God’s help, we can be one with them as well. It’s really just that simple.

1 Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is ONE SPIRIT.

It doesn’t mean that they mystically merge into one Being. It means that they agree on everything; are alike on every key point of righteousness; dwell together in harmony. That’s how God uses oneness everywhere else in the Bible (Jeremiah 32:38-39, 2 Chronicles 30:12, 1 Chronicles 12:38, etc) – so why assume He meant something completely different in John, when it’s obvious He didn’t?

1 Corinthians 12:12,14 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. … For the body is not one member, but many.

The body is the true church of God; not a physical organization, but a spiritual one. And those in the church are those destined to be a part of the family of God. This family of God is ONE family; but it has MANY MEMBERS. Why is that so complicated? We will be a part of that one family, just as God and Jesus are. That’s been the plan from the beginning. God never changed it – men just didn’t want to believe it, so they invented the trinity instead… with Satan’s help.

THE LAST OBJECTION

The only other really good scripture people quote to prove the trinity is ironically, one of the best proofs of what I just said. It is…

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Does that say “baptize them in the name of the holy trinity”? Does it say “baptize them in the NAME of the Father, the NAME of the Son, and the NAME of the Holy Ghost”? Read it carefully, is that what it says? Did it say “baptize them in the NAMES of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost”?

Did it? Or did it say to baptize them into the NAME – the singular NAME – that the Father, Son, and everyone with the holy spirit SHARES? Remember the “fellowship, communion, or sharing of the holy spirit”? Everyone who does that carries a NAME – the same name, no matter who they are, if they have been conceived into the family of God, they carry the NAME of the Father “of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named”!! (Ephesians 3:15).

They were not to baptize new converts into a TRINITY – this verse doesn’t say that! They were to baptize them into the NAME OF THE FAMILY OF GOD! Into the Elohim God-family that we are all destined to take part of, if we fulfill God’s requirements!

That is the glorious future the trinity prevents men from understanding! That is the TRUTH that is blasphemous to the world, but holy and sacred to God! That is the truth that is deeply offensive to Satan and his churches, because it means that WE will be a part of that Godhead that he wanted so fervently to join and close off to all of mankind.

God is a family. Not a trinity. If you want to know more about that family, study www.TheSimpleAnswers.com‘s free Bible correspondence course.
